aoto’s attire is mostly made up of black clothing (this is mostly in her introduction chapter in Dogs). A lot of this makes strong connections to her personality, as well as the overall environment of Dogs.
In Ch. 3, she is seen wearing a black dress most of the time, complete with boots. This style changes slightly at the end of the chapter, although the color still stays the same. In the second volume, Dogs: Bullets & Carnage, Naoto's attire seems to be slighly different from where the chapter left off as well.
Naoto’s color, black, can represent how she is lost. She is lost in the shadows, trying to find her way out and find out who she really is. Her leads about her revenge always have a 50/50 chance of having a dead end. She’s always questioning who to trust and, even if this seems strange, she trusts them anyway thinking that she has nothing to lose.
The color black also reflects the dark and hostile world that the story takes place in. Here is an excerpt from a unofficial summary of the series (you can read the entire one here):
"In a post apolyptic world devoid of seasons, where man's "golden age of technology" ruined earth and caused science to run amok, there live four individuals looking for a door to the hell far below the surface..."
The cast of Dogs are often seen wearing black clothing. Each of them had some traumatic experience in life – Naoto is no different. The black that the cast wears can represent how they are “strays,” emphasizing the title of Dogs: Stray Dogs Howling in the Dark.
