Church Mates

N
il is an angel – physically and literally. Naoto treats Nil with kindness and sweetness that, at first, was surprising coming from her. The kindness and gentleness seems to come out of even the most serious people when Nil is around. Naoto even saves Nil once from a gang of thugs who were trying to capture her. She is almost like a young sister to the entire Dogs cast, but she has been through her own dark times as well. However, she has been able to somewhat move away from that part of her past, and somehow managed to maintain her childlike innocence that has been shown more than once during the story. Perhaps that is what Naoto is hoping for – to move away from her past and be happy once more.

T
he priest of the church (who I still don’t know the name of, my apologies) is one of the people Naoto seeks to find “someone,” meaning the one who murdered her parents. Amazingly, the priest already seems to know who she is the moment she steps into the church.

"Um, you’re called Naoto-san aren’t you."

Another interesting thing to note is that it was not a question, but a statement. The sky is blue. Fish can swim. Your name is Naoto. Based on this, it seems that Naoto did not have the time to introduce herself, even though she is pictured sitting quite comfortably in one of the seats of the church. Naoto says that she came here because she heard that he had information about the darkest areas of the place. The priest responds that he’s just an ordinary priest (which Nil is seen scowling at from a distance), but he still gives her the information to “find a white-haired man.”
